Wiki definition: Soca music (also known as the soul of calypso) is a genre of Caribbean music that originated within a marginalized subculture in the Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970s, and developed into a range of styles in the 1980s and later. Soca developed as an offshoot of kaiso/calypso, with influences from chutney, cadence, funk and soul.
I love Soca. It gives me life, floats my happy moods and is just the greatest, most underrated genre of music ever. I dare you to try it. There is a Trini saying "try it, you'll like it" and it's true. If you love rhythms that make you smile and move, soca is the music for you. ---K |
