Images courtesy Erphaan Alves Facebook page. Around 8pm last night the International Soca Monarch guys decided to release the results for the finals event on Fantastic Friday. Having attended the semifinals event at the Arima Velodrome, some names surprised us and some "missing" names surprised us even more. If you are trying to tell us Adana didn't deserve to be in the finals, we don't believe you! Surprising us even more, was one of our favourites, Erphhan Alves' reaction to the news. Yeah. That wasn't all he said. And we kind of get it. He had a great performance. His already fantastic voice was crystal clear, unlike the grumblings of at least one finalist. His presentation suggested effort and was actually enjoyable, unlike at least three chosen finalists. Look at the video! But.... We've got to ask... Is this the first time someone we felt was deserving didn't make it into the finals? We don't think so. And if the only time you get angry is when it happens to you, not only is that a tad bit hypocritical but also dodgy af. So we are with Erphaan, his performance was great, and Can't Wait is an under-played, under-rated but really good song. But... if you're going to be vocal, don't just be vocal when it affects you because you run the risk of the "sour grapes" perception that sort of, kind of detracts from what may be a valid argument.

We jammin still! Video credit: We found it on Youee JB's FB pageJust hold dem and wuk dem! We can't get enough of Ultimate Reject's Full Extreme. We want to hear all the time on all the radio stations and in all the fete's. Still, we weren't 100 per cent sure how it would sound on steel. Now that we've heard it, all we can say is "we jamming still" Long live Soca! It's a J'ouvert tune! Machel and Bunji deliver with Buss Head and we were so ready for it.1/27/2017 .What you need to know?
1. Well if you weren't planning on playing J'ouvert, we bet you are now. Tell us what you think! The King of Soca and the Vi-King finally give soca lovers a collab and people just cannot deal.1/27/2017 It was the day of the Digicel Play Street Party And all through the land Most creatures were working But thinking of their weekend plans When all through the interwebs arose such a clatter We sprang onto Instagram to see what was the matter. Clearly, Machel and Bunji are trying to start a riot. The two biggest soca stars and presumed rivals posted the same image on their accounts creating the biggest buzz for the Carnival season so far. Yes, even bigger than the Machel-ites constant demand for their idol to release their Road March. And as epic as the Machel haters ability to always use Ants as the go to, Machel sucks song. Some speculated what the image could mean; what have the two collaborated on? A new song? Others were just going crazy at the possibilities, confident that whatever it is would be the best thing to happen to soca and would be the healing tonic needed to cure Trinidad’s ails. Yet others were convinced the two combined powers to combat the pure fun and magnificence that is Ultimate Rejects’ “Full Extreme”. We know now it’s a song. What we don’t know is when it would be unleashed on us, Though people are saying today. People expecting the Road March would be disappointed: A snippet making its rounds on Whats App sounds more like something of the pace of Renegade Soca, Bunji’s song with Ataklan released in 2015. Whatever it is, it’s sure to be special. The lyrical and musical genius of the ViKing and the King of Soca’s knack for performance is something that can’t be ignored. While we wait, maybe we could come up with a name for this budding relationship; Bunchel, or what do you think of Manji? (too soon?). We probably should also remember that the two have worked together in the past, for that bmobile theme song....Move with us. |
